Synopsis:

MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. Or so she thinks…until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death–a cryptic message on Mac’s cell phone–Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers. The quest to find her sister’s killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed–a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae….

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister’s death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane–an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women–closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac’s true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book–because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds in their hands…

Review:

I just recently read tons of bad reviews on this book but at the same time, I also read the good ones. No matter how mixed the reviews on this was. I still wanted to give this one a try.

I found Mac a barbie doll change to all the usual boyish heroes thats all over the genre. This was a welcome change for me. I know a lot of you don't really like her because of her attitude. But I didn't mind it as much. It entertained me more than annoy me. She was witty and fearless.

Jericho on the other hand totally surprised me. Mac didn't describe him as handsome or hot when she met him. Which is new to me. She slowly warms up to him and he to her and trust me thats an even more welcome concept for me! I'm sick of those "OMG! I just met you! I think I love you!" crap.

The plot is unique and very different from the other books I've read. I love the narration and how everything was written as much as I liked the fact that they're killing the Fae. I hate the Fae. They evil I tell you! I never liked them at all! And this book is the only Fae book I like. Yay! Definitely an unputdownable, vibrant, and shadowy new read. I can't wait to finish the series!

  1. I did have a problem with the Barbie doll thing in the beginning. I guess I am shallow like that.lol. But after watching her grow so much in the books I can now totally over look it. It took me a while to love this series, but now that I read them all I am a total Fever Fanatic!lol.

I think I was so hard on this book too, because everyone loved it. And they read it first so I knew the series could never be mine.lol. That probably makes no sense but I am very possessive of my books. Anyways if you hadn't already knew it, I have problems.lol

Great Review!! You really hit on the points that made this book a good one. I need to reread them with my new attitude towards it.

  2. Sorry for my long and crazy comment. And I hope my quote didn't ruin anything for you I just thought it was funny. Once I got to the 3rd book I had to read the rest before I could even pick up another book. So be prepared for that.

  3. Woohoo, go Fever!:)) I LOVE this series and I'm so glad you like it too! And I know it's hard to like Barbie Mac in the beginning (she earned a lot of eye rolls from me for sure) but seeing her like that makes for a perfect balance for what she becomes by the end of the series. It makes it more real, more believable and seeing her grow, evolve, develop like a character is more appealing and interesting and it somehow makes it easier to care for her. Does that make any sense?LOL

And... I'm a bit speechless when it comes to Barrons. he's just so... Perfect!:)) *faints*

Hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

I agree with Amber, great review, you really hit the important points!

    *Hugs*
