This is a story about Amy and how her life is frozen (literally) with a select others for 301 years. They are frozen in a box (otherwise called cryo chambers) and put on "Godspeed", a ship that was sent out into space toward a new planet that will take over 3 centuries to reach. But something mysterious awakens Amy early from her boxed prison and from there the reader is taken on a roller-coaster sort of ride into Amy and Elders life. Amy's strife to accept her new prison and how alone she is and Elders fight to accomplish what a soon to be leader of "Godspeed" should be like.

This sci-fi dystopian novel takes a reader into a whole different aspect from your usual Young Adult Fiction. From the start, the book begins with Amy going through the decision on whether or not to join her parents to be frozen and be sent to their future lives 301 years later on a whole new planet.

Now, imagine being frozen in time for centuries, not moving, not speaking just alone with your mind. Asleep for years. Amy starts to feel the long wait as she dreams good and bad dreams. But then she is awakened unexpectedly and one of the first faces she sees is Elder. A boy and her soon to be love interest.

From then on, Amy fights against her fears of loneliness and tries to make the inhabitants of the ship understand that differences are okay aboard a ship that is isolated in space and Elder grows into a determined leader trying to rid "Godspeed" of lies and manipulation. As the plot grows the protagonists are challenged with a mystery as other cryo chambers are opened and left to melt as people die for the sole purpose of keeping differences away and control intact. All together the story becomes engrossing and compelling. The story itself is original and nothing like what a reader would expect.

Beth Revis' debut novel 'Across the Universe' is that perfect read for the adventurous young reader. It was an amazing blend of mystery, love, strife all rolled in one unique sci-fi/dystopian novel and nothing beats the sun like a refreshing read while on summer break from school. An unputdownable book guaranteed to wow you. 5/5 stars!

Comments outside professionalism: Omg. I can't believe I took that long to read this book! ATU is awesome! Like utterly completely awesome! I love Amy she is just someone I can connect with entirely. Another book this year that simply blew me away! I can't wait for the next book. Woot woot! Sorry guys if I sounded like some dull monotoned person up there. I just wasn't bothered to write 2 different types of reviews on this book one for my blog and one for the newspaper. -.- so not looking forward to that. So I just decided to just review it for the newspaper and just you know copy paste it. :D haha. Yes, I'm very lazy.
