Re-Cover Me Friday #1

Re-Cover Me Friday, is a new feature only featured on my blog. It is a feature where I basically take a book cover and redesign it completely in my own way. This started out as just an idea that I wanted to try out. So I went on Twitter to ask for help and only one replied. -.- But I am very grateful for her input! I wanted to try it out first and photoshopped a couple of images together and came up with something great and that's when I realized this is something I can do that incorporates both my hobby and my job (I'm a designer :D if you don't know already). I'm very excited about this! I hope everyone will find this enjoyable.

The first book I've Re-Covered is Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I used actors for the models because I didn't want to go looking around model sites for models who look like the characters and who all look 25 and above. This is Odette Yustman and Ben Barnes. I looked through a hell load of VA dream cast posts everywhere on the net and only found Odette pleasing because she looks slightly Turkish like she's said to be in the book and also the fact that out of all the choices only Odette looked young enough to be Rose.

Do I have to explain why I picked Ben Barnes? Seriously? I mean look at him. When I was photoshopping that pretty face I took 20mins of my time just staring at him in zoom in. -.- Sorry, if I sound like a stalker. Haha. That man is just pure hotness especially in that photo. *swoons*

What do you guys think? If you have any suggestions or books you'd like to see "Re-covered" let me know with a comment. :D

Disclaimer: I mean no disrespect to the actual designers of the books that are mentioned. I only mean to design my own cover of it and to have fun with it without using any elements already on the book cover.

  1. Good Job Naj, my only critique is that it remind me of twilight for some reason (kinda like edward brooding in the background). I love the school in the back its so pretty! I loved that actress for Rose!!! (she's perty & looks like she could do some good butt kicking). I might be Andrei Andrei a fan but Ben Barnes does justice for(dimitri). You did such a great job, im looking forward to your other re-cover designs!

I think if VA covers were redone/re-released more people would be aware of this awesome series!

  11. Ooh yours is SO much better! I wish the covers for VA were better, but at least the Bloodlines covers are pretty spectacular. I also wish I didn't ALWAYS have to say "I know the name is crap, but read them anyway!" whenever I mention Vampire Academy. The names of the other books are fine, though.
